Miyawaka International Triennale "TRAiART" Exhibition - 1st Runner Up

Floating Fireflies Forest

‘Floating Firefly Forest’ objective is to remind the visitors what they have been missing from the city where people are disconnected away from nature.

The proposed installation is a simple box that features cut-out on the inside that is lighted internally to simulate a ‘Forest filled with Firefly’. The peculiar placement of the installation itself create a statement that trigger curiosity of visitors to get closer and interact with the installation itself.

Addressing the out-migration issue for younger population into urban area. We intend to create an installation that evoke our childhood curiosity of our long-forgotten moment when exploring nature. Similar to what we have in Kuala Selangor, Malaysia renowned for fireflies lightened up the village along Selangor River during the night. Miyawaka is known for its Firefly Festival that is held in June. The idea is to bring the scenery of dark forest filled with firefly in a small form to the point that it is portable and easily brought around to different places.

The work will display at Kasamatsu Elementary School, Japan for 3 years which from July 2021 until July 2023.
